IATP Asbestos Courses

The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (ACOP L143, Regulation 10, Paras 232-236) requires mandatory asbestos awareness training for anyone liable to be exposed to asbestos fibres at work. Training should be regular, and be provided for those that supervise workers. This includes maintenance workers and others who may come into contact with, or who may disturb asbestos, as well as those involved in asbestos removal work.

At RB Asbestos, we provide full IATP asbestos awareness training, and IATP one day none licensed asbestos training if you need to work with ‘low risk’ or none licensed asbestos materials. Remember, it is your legal duty to be trained, and it will also be your duty to manage your e-learning and training resources. The training that we offer at RB Asbestos is CPD orientated, to ensure that your learning experience is proactive and conscious.

The RB Asbestos team have over 30 years’ experience in providing asbestos training and are registered to and regularly audited by the IATP. We can create bespoke courses that match your requirements, and also you have the option of either coming to us or requesting us to visit your premises.

Who Should Attend This Course?

Asbestos awareness training should be given to all employees whose work could potentially expose them to asbestos. Particularly, it should be given to all demolition workers and those workers in the refurbishment and allied trades where it is foreseeable that their work will disturb the fabric of the building – such as electricians, plumbers, builders, engineers, lift engineers, CDM co-ordinators etc.

RB Asbestos Consultants offer free asbestos awareness course places to senior personnel, alongside their employees, as we strongly believe these individuals should undergo the training due to being mostly responsible for sending their staff out to various sites and contracts.

The IATP Asbestos Awareness Course by RB Asbestos satisfies the HSE’s requirements and provides your employees with an understanding and appreciation of the legal and practical requirements to protect themselves from the risks associated with asbestos. Upon completion of the course you are awarded an IATP Asbestos Awareness certificate.

Course Location & Cost

RB Asbestos Consultants run monthly Asbestos Awareness Courses at our offices in Burnley, at a cost of £35+ VAT per delegate.

What is asbestos awareness training?

Anyone who may come into contact with asbestos through the course of their work (or those that supervise them) should be given appropriate training.

How often do I need to do an asbestos awareness course?

The training was previously required to be annually. However, the regulations now state this should be given ‘regularly’ dependent on your level of risk to exposure. Some clients may still insist this is carried out annually, but it isn’t a legal requirement to undergo training on an annual basis.

Can I work with asbestos after awareness training?

No. For lower risk asbestos materials, you need to undertake ‘none licensed training for asbestos materials’. For higher risk materials, you need a license from the HSE. If unsure, please contact RB Asbestos by calling 0800 141 2676.

How much does an asbestos awareness course cost?

It is relatively inexpensive, and generally the duration of the course will last for half a day.

Can I do asbestos awareness by E-Learning?

Yes, this is acceptable to the HSE. However, a certificate doesn’t necessarily make you competent. We always recommend face to face training initially before then using E-Learning as a tool to support your progress going forward.
